From 1990 to today, Burnside & Associates ran sophisticated field operations for political campaigns across the county.  Nearly ten years ago we expanded our community outreach and grasstops business to U.S. and international corporate clients.

Burnside & Associates is certified as a Woman Business Enterprise (WBE), Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE), and Small Business Enterprise (SBE) with the State of California.  We are also certified by the County of Los Angeles as a Community Business Enterprise (CBE).  For our client's printing needs, we work with Union vendors who use environmentally-friendly equipment and offer a full range of recycled papers.

Meet Sue Burnside, President

Sue Burnside's expertise is in voter identification, targeting and contact, Vote-By-Mail, as well as coalition building, neighborhood organizing, direct mail and post-election voter canvasses.

Among the highlights of Burnside's historic campaign wins: Janice Hahn's Congressional race in 2011; in 2010 the 22 vote victory for State senator Juan Vargas; Senator John Kerry for President's victory in the state of Oregon in 2004; an independent expenditure PAC that moved Colorado's House and Senate back to the Democratic column; Vice President Al Gore's 2000 victory in the state of New Mexico; Wendy Greuel for Los Angeles City Council 2001, a special election decided by a 225-vote win margin in a post-election canvass; Joe Baca for Congress 1999; Lois Capps for Congress in 1998; L.A. Unified's Proposition BB in 1997, the second attempt by the School District to pass the largest local school bond in California history; Jane Harman for Congress 1994 -- an election was so close that Harman's opponent traveled to Washington expecting to be sworn in, only to return to the district two weeks later after Harman's come-from-behind victory created by Burnside's vote-by-mail program; and Tom Hayden for Senate 1992, with the underdog Hayden beating the better-funded incumbent Hirsch Rosenthal by 582 votes.

Sue Burnside grew up in Southern California and got her political start during Santa Monica's acrimonious rent control battles.  She lives in Los Angeles and Palm Springs. Sue is the Co chair of the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund's Campaign Board, and sits on the Equality California board. In her spare time Sue like sailing,  DYI projects and land banking.

Meet Arianne Garcia, Senior Consultant

Arianne joined our firm after a huge victory for State Senator Juan Vargas in San Diego, where on Election Day stood 505 votes behind his opponent, but after the post-election canvass, came away with the winning margin of just 22 votes!

Before joining Burnside & Associates in 2010, Arianne worked on campaigns at the local, state, and federal levels. Some of her past work includes Equality California, Judy Chu for Congress, and Hillary Clinton for President. Since joining the firm, Arianne has worked on a number of successful campaigns, including the city council recall in the City of Bell, a reelection bid for Los Angeles councilman Tom LaBonge, and most recently a big win for Rep. Janice Hahn in a Congressional special election.

Arianne is a graduate of Cal Poly Pomona and a Southern California native.

Meet Ryan Low, Advisor/Data Specialist

Low joined Burnside & Associates following his work on Janice Hahn's successful, come-from-behind campaign for Congress in 2011. Specializing in data, field, messaging, and GOTV, Low brings with him deep experience from dozens of campaigns, especially in California and New Jersey. Having worked in management, field, fundraising, and communications, Low approaches every project at Burnside & Associates with a wide-angle perspective. Before joining Burnside & Associates, Low worked for State Assemblymember Warren Furutani, focusing on Asian American Pacific Islander and Latino outreach. Low grew up in Los Angeles and studied legal history at Princeton University.

Meet Ben Wayne, Associate

With a passion for voter engagement and issues affecting local communities, he caught the political bug while in college and has not looked back since. Before joining Burnside and Associates in 2014, Ben worked on campaigns at the local, state, and federal level. Some of his past work includes Phil Ting for Assembly, Julia Brownley for Congress, and Organizing for Action. Since joining the firm, Ben has worked on Wendy Greuel for Congress, and works with our various corporate clients. Ben is a graduate of San Francisco State University.

Meet Adam Fleishman, Associate

From a family of Arizona Democratic activists, Adam grew up in San Diego, California, where he cut his teeth in local politics and community activism. In the past, Adam worked on David Alvarez’s mayoral campaign as well as Scott Peters’ Congressional campaign. Adam started working for the first time, with Burnside & Associates, in the summer of 2014, in a grueling fight to raise the San Diego Minimum Wage. Since, he has been a valuable part of the team helping with various projects in San Diego and Los Angeles - - most recently as a volunteer coordinator and field organizer in the Bennet Kayser for School Board Campaign. He is now a resident of Los Angeles, CA.
